Microsoft Flight Simulator
We pride ourselves on making sure we all have down time, and believe it or not, we all have a little bit of geek in us. One of the things we see people using in their down time is home automation, gaming and simulators, some of the coolest tech innovations around. The latest game release from Microsoft, the “Flight Simulator”, is exactly this. The team of developers, along with a group of selected and experienced gamers received early access to the game, and have been trialling the newest features to give feedback for ultimate product success. And now, it’s here!
So what’s new?
The mapping data is off the charts!
Bing Maps works to convert 3D scans of the environment into the game world. This includes terrain data for landscaping, foliage density to map billions of trees. What this basically means is that it makes for a very accurate life-like flying experience.
37,000 manually edited airports
The game includes air and ground traffic to recreate real world destinations, down to one simple tree. Attention to detail is certainly not lacking.
Climate accuracy
Ever wondered what it’s like to fly a plane in the not-so-smooth weather conditions? The accuracy of the climate has been embedded with the capability to fly according to real time weather data. Windows Central says, “the temperature, wind speed, humidity, pressure, and other data all factor into the simulation, visualising the climate, with corresponding aerodynamics.”
Test a range of different planes
Small jets, commercial planes, wide-body jets, light planes. Flight Simulator allows you to test flights in a range of aircraft to challenge and improve your skills.
Jorg Nuemann, Head of Microsoft Fligth Simulator says, “Flight Aware data will allow simmers to fly sharing their air space with the current air traffic but also to check arrivals and departure from airports, select any flight to see its fly plan and even have the possibility to, virtually of course, take controls.”
