Working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic? Here's a few tech tips
Unfortunately, working remotely isn’t possible for all. But for those fortunate enough to do so in these unprecedented times, there’s ways to ensure you’re able to work securely and effectively.
We recently stumbled across some fantastic tips by our partners Sophos, who understand the importance of being a stable online user during these trying times. Here’s some of the important things they outlined:
Protect your devices and systems.
Sophos describe this one as simply, going ‘back to basics’, something we often forget to do. By ensuring your systems are up-to-date, you’re lowering the risks of malware breaches to your organisation’s systems. When contact with someone who can fix these issues is limited or refused, it’s crucial you’re giving yourself the best chance to work remotely, without the technical hiccups.
Establish healthy practice by scanning your email.
When there’s a lack of human interaction, it’s likely you’ll be flooded with emails. Ensure your notifications are switched and you’re regularly checking for important updates. On another note, ensure your emails are protected as phishing has increased during the Coronavirus pandemic so it’s important your confidential data is safe.
Make sure employees have a way to report issues if need be.
When you’re unable to call upon an IT support person to physically solve your IT problems, an action plan is required for when and if these issues arise. Provide employees with a number to call or an email address in the case they’re in need of tech support.
